Mangaluru :Oil reserve projects to be completed in a year : Dharmendra Pradhan

Mangaluru, April 5, 2015:  Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra  Pradhan has said that the process of storage of crude oil in the underground oil reserves at Padoor and Vishakhapatnam will  commence soon.

Speaking to reporters at the District BJP office on April 4, Saturday, he said the work on the Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited Project in Mangaluru would be complete in a year. He said oil reserve projects are major projects and added that the ongoing project works are almost complete but for some technical works. He said as per information provided by officials the process is expected to be complete by October.

Presently the crude oil price is very less in the international market. We need to take full advantage of the same, he said adding the oil reserve at Mangaluru has a capacity of 1.5 million tonne while that at Padoor is 2.5 million tonnes. On the problems over pipeline laying, the  minister said that the local MP Nalin Kumar has already brought the matter to his notice. He said all out efforts would be made to solve the same.

Mangaluru-The Industrial capital: The MRPL in Mangaluru is one of the major oil refinery in the nation. Even the MSEZ and Petrochemicals Complex are in the offing here and will make Mangaluru the Industrial capital of the South, the Minister said.

On the Kochi-Mangaluru pipeline issue, Pradhan said  his ministry was keen to complete it at the earliest and has requested the Kerala CM to settle all problems over pipeline laying in Kerala.

He said he was aware of the complaints of the pollution caused by MRPL’s coke unit and assured he would visit the place.
