Mangaluru, July 10,2017: National Fish Farmers’ Day was inaugurated by State Minister for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports Pramod Madhwaraj at a function held at Fisheries College Ekkur. The function was jointly organised by the Agricultural Science Centre of Fisheries College and Department of Fisheries.
Speaking on the occasion the Minister stressed the need for a clear-cut policy on sea fishing. It is regrettable that inland fishing has not received enough encouragement in the state despite significant strides in this regard by states like Andhra Pradesh, he said.
Excessive deep sea fishing and inadequate inland fishing has created problems, he said.
Stating that officials have been instructed to encourage farmers to take up fishing and also to organise an Andhra Pradesh tour for farmers to know about the success of inland fishing there.
Dr M N Venugopal, Dean of Fisheries College, V K Shetty, Managing Director of KFDC, Dr Shivakumar, Chief of Agricultural Science Centre and others were present.
