The arrested person is Madhusudan alias Sudhaker (39)  of Mailatti village in Ramji nagar of Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu. He has been produced before a court in Mangaluru and then taken to Goa.

Robbery The theft had taken place on July 19. Though the initial suspicion  was on the counter staff, the police could not get any clue. Meanwhile the three staff on duty  had jointly reimbursed the stolen amount with great difficulty.

Recently, he  police in Goa had arrested a person  from a Goa-Karwar bus  during checking of vehicles  in the backdrop of the theft of Rs 12 lakh from the Bank of India Branch at Mapusa in Goa. The arrest was made as the person’s face resembled that of the thief  whose image was captured in the CCTV camera of the Bank. On interrogation, the accused had admitted his  guilt.

The Railway police in Mangaluru who got information about this  arrest,    suspected that the same person might have been involved in the theft in the railway ticket counter and had  appealed to the Goa court to secure his body warrant. Accordingly, the man was brought to Mangaluru and during interrogation he had confessed his crime.

He comes from a village of thieves: Ironically, the accused Madhusudan hails from Mailatti which is known as a village of thieves. Here there are different  gangs of thieves and one team of 15 members had left Tiruchirapalli to Mangaluru on July 16. The theft had occurred in Mangaluru on July 19.

Modus Operandi: The gang members who stood near the counter in the queue as if they  intended to purchase tickets had later picked up a quarrel with the counter staff when two others managed to enter the counter and steal the cash. The counter staff usually place the cash in a  table that is behind them once the drawer close by them is filled with cash. On July 19 afternoon during the quarrel, Madhusudan had quietly slipped inside the counter and had escaped after stealing the cash in just 18 seconds.
