Mangaluru: Man gets 5 years jail term after his wife’s death due to harassment

Mangaluru June 1, 2016: A Man has sentenced to five year jail term on the charges of consistent mental harassment on his wife led to end her life.


jail Convicted has been identified as Praveen Chandra (35) from Mandadigudde in Bantwal. Judge C M Joshi from first additional district court delivered the judgment and sentenced Praveen Chandra to 5 years jail and fine of rupees 25,000. Due to lack of evidence his mother (68) and sister Sunitha (27) were co-accused were released.
Praveen Chandra who had married Chandrika (22) in 2011, it is said that after consistent harassment by Devak and Sunitha, Chandrika decided to stay separate as the couple moved at a rented house in Yekkur but Praveen Chandra abused her badly for disobeying his mother.

Chandrika took extreme step by hanging in her room. A case was filed in Mangaluru Police Station and charge sheet was submitted with 18 witnesses.

The court convicted Praveen Chandra five years of jail term with fine of Rs 25,000 for abetting suicide, mental harassment and physical torture.
