Mangaluru: Man arrested for sexually assaulting minor girl

Mangaluru: Augut 28, 2015: Mangaluru police on Friday arrested a 55 year old merchant for abusing physically a 9 year old girl at Neermarga in the city outskirts.

 

The accused has been identified as Rony D’Souza of Merlapadavu in Neermarga in the city outskirts. D’Souza has been arrested based on a complaint filed by mother of the victim girl, a student. Mangaluru rural police sources said that D’Souza has allegedly abused physically the girl near his shop on August 22.

"According to the complainant, the girl was returning from the school in the evening when the incident took place. When the girl was standing near the shop, D’Souza put his hand around her neck and thereby tried to outrage the modesty. Hence, he has been arrested on Friday," police sources said.

A case under Section 354 of IPC (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been booked against D’Souza. He was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate and sent to judicial custody. The girl has been subjected to medical examination. Her statement under Section 164 of CrPC is yet to be recorded, police sources said.
