Mangaluru: Man abuses doctor, staff at Wenlock Hospital; arrested

Mangaluru, Jun 18, 2019 : The police arrested a man on the charge of behaving in an unruly manner with doctors and staff in the Causality Department of the Government Wenlock Hospital here on Monday for delay in getting an ambulance to shift his friend to a private hospital in Kuntikana.

Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Rajeshwari Devi H.R. filed a compliant against the arrested man, Nitin, and Dikshit Shetty who reportedly abused the causality medical officer and the nursing staff for delay in shifting his friend Dhanish Shetty.

Nitin abused the personnel while Dikshit Shetty recorded the incident and posted it on social media platforms.

In the complaint, Dr. Devi said that Nitin and Dikshit Shetty came to the hospital’s causality department at about 3 a.m. along with his friend Dhanish Shetty, who had suffered an injury in his head after a fall from his motorcycle. After providing preliminary treatment, the causality medical officer asked Nitin to take his friend for a CT scan at the scanning centre in the adjoining building of the hospital. Nitin and Dikshit Shetty refused and insisted that the hospital staff arrange for an ambulance for them to take their friend to the private hospital.

Nitin and Dikshit Shetty abused the CMO and other staff and a police constable on duty. Dikshit Shetty recorded the video of the incident and threatened that he would put it on the social media to expose poor treatment facility at the hospital, the doctor said in the complaint.

The Mangaluru South Police registered her complaint under Section 504 of the Indian Penal Code (insult intended to provoke breach of peace) IPC and under Sections 3 and 4 of Karnataka Prohibition of Violence against Medicare Services Personnel and Damage to Property in Medicare Service Institutions Act.
