Mangaluru, July 30, 2015 : Following massive protests by students under the leadership of the ABVP, the Mangalore University has reduced the fees for post graduate seats under self-financing category. The ABVP had demanded reduction in fees under merit quota to.
The Vice Chancellor convened a Syndicate meeting to discuss the issue and take a decision regarding the fees.
The protestors had argued that the hike in fees would make higher education inaccessible to poor students. The protests were staged in front of the Mangala Auditorium at Konaje on July 27 and also on July 29.
Following July 27 protest, the VC had reduced the fees for meritorious students. However there was a protest once again on Wednesday demanding reduction of self-financing category fees prompting the VC to assure to reduce fees by 30 % following which protest was withdrawn. The protest was participated among others by ABVP office bearers including Sudipth, Dinesh, Chethan Padil and others.
The University decision to reduce fees prompted the ABVP to celebrate the occasion at PVS Junction.
