A Bank official said 1.60 lakh Jan Dhan accounts have been opened in various banks in the district and 60 per cent of accounts are active.  Around 2.18 rupay cards have been distributed, but 30 per cent of them are yet to be activated. Less than 1,000 people have registered their name under Atal Pension Yojana, he said. The MP blamed bank managers for the poor show. There is lack of information among public. Many people still believe that they get Rs 5,000 by opening the account.

Bank managers should play a major role in opening an account and creating awareness about the schemes. The negotiation of banks would harm the image of the government, he said. DK DC  Adoor B Ibrahim said that he has written to the Chief Secretary of the government about attitude of bank officials.

BSNL : Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) officials said there were 50 proposals for WiFi facility and 12 have been sanctioned including Dharmasthala. But, the MP was unhappy as the company failed to provide WiFi facility to the Zilla Panchayat even after four months. There are many complaints against BSNL.

Now, if there is no proper service people won’t wait to choose another, he said. BSNL would connect 93 panchayats in the district and work on 15 panchayats has been done, but others are pending because of pending because of technical problems. Meanwhile, the MP asked to prepare a project to Balpa, the village selected by the MP under MP’s model village programme.

Health  :  MP Nalin Kumar Kateel expressed concern about increasing cases of dengue and also about malaria, H1N1 and other communicable diseases in the district. He directed to utilize the service of private hospitals. They have to give daily 100 beds free to the patients referred from the government hospitals. The MBBS and nursing students would create awareness about the danger of the diseases among people. He said if private hospitals don’t  cooperate, he would write to MCI and to the health ministry. Few private hospitals are not maintaining cleanliness outside the hospital and notice should be issued to them.

PMGSY : Poor show in Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana has irked both the MP and the DC. According to an official 16 road works and two bridge works were sanctioned for this summer. PMGSY had completed 65.07 km of road work out of 90.51 km along with two bridges. None of the projects were complete and officials said that they would be completed by December or March. Most of the projects were already extended by several months. Though officials found several reasons, the MP said that they failed to find able contractors.

Indira Awas Yojana, out of more than 2,000 sanctioned houses in 2013-14, work on about  691 houses is yet to start. Moreover, Taluk Panchayat officials completely failed to give answers. Meanwhile, the DC came down heavily against the officials and said that only 10 to 20 per cent completion reflects the officials poor work style.
