Mangaluru: MIA Techie harassment case moves forward

Mangaluru, July 08, 2015 :  Investigation into the alleged harassment and abuse of an IT professional by taxi operators at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) on June 12 is set to progress.  The IT professional appeared before the police to give her version and cooperate with the investigation process.

 

Presently, Assitant Commissioner of Police Madan Goankar is investigating the case as the victim had written to the police authorities that the case should be investigated by an ACP rank official.

Goankar said the victim appeared before him and assured of her full cooperation in the  process. On whether she could identify the accused on sight, the officer said the CCTV footage was not clear and hence she could not. The airport authorities are asked to make available further footage, if any.  Not solely depending on CCTV footage, other investigation methods and evidence collection is being relied upon.

The IT professional, who had to appear before the police could not do so earlier due to other engagements and her ill health.

The MIA CCTV footage already with police has not thrown up anything regarding the alleged altercation between the techie and the taxi drivers. Police said they could not see any indication of any altercation taking place between taxi drivers and the woman in the CCTV footage. But they had approached the Ola cab driver, that much is seen.

The complainant claimed the incident happened while she was walking towards the toll booth to catch the cab which was parked there, after the Ola driver was threatened inside the airport premises. The pathway leading to the toll booth from the terminal building is not under CCTV surveillance. There’s a CCTV at the toll booth, but it faces the vehicle arrival side and focuses on the vehicle number plates.  The IT professional was caught in a fight between local taxi operators and her Ola cab driver at MIA. She had to walk far and catch an auto rickshaw to her home.
