Mangaluru: Like-minded organisations join hands to help quake-hit Nepal; seek aid

Mangaluru, May 2, 2015: Like-minded civil society organisations the world over have joined hands to engage in efforts to provide relief to the quake hit Himalayan state of Nepal.

WHEEL (World Health and Education Enrichment Links), an organisation mooted by a Puttur based medical professional who is presently working in Chicago, has initiated the move to network various organisations all over the world to help Nepal Rescue. Concerted efforts are being taken up to mobilise relief materials from Karnataka and Delhi in India supported by organisations in United States and South Korea.

Mangalore based Centre for Integrated Learning, Hope Foundation among others are coordinating efforts in mobilising relief in and around the state, informed   S Nandagopal, Advisor, World Health and Education Enrichment Links (WHEEL) and Saif Sulthan, Director, Hope Foundation.

The materials collected  are in the form of medications in all forms, ready to eat (non-perishable) food items, clothing such as blankets and raincoats. The medical aid consists of emergency medicine, first aid kits, antibiotics and other drugs.

The team is working on ground in Nepal with Dr.Eukesh Ranjit who is well known medical doctor in Khatmandu. His work experience in both developed nations and developing nations is making significant difference to people of Nepal now. He is closely working with Govt of Nepal in co-ordinating events.

Awareness and engagement efforts have been made at the PG Centre of Mangalore University at Chikka Alavura in Kodagu and there is a plan to send Social Work students to Nepal as volunteers to work on ground.

Under the leadership of Dr.Anoop Diwan, Care For All Trust has started similar efforts in Delhi. They are closely working with Govt of Delhi. Dr.Anoop has extensive experience in working during Kashmir tragedy. He, along with his trained team is going to Nepal shortly to volunteer their expertise.

In United States, World Health and Education Network (WHEN) a non-profit organization has begun its fundraising process. Mainly, non-residential Nepalese and Indians have been contributing which will directly catalyze the efforts made in India for Nepal Rescue.

* To arrange Rs. 2 lac to buy 1,000 blankets and transport them from Bengaluru to Nepal.
*To arrange medicines for medical camps planned in Nepal
*To arrange tarpaulin for tents, food packets like biscuits, chlorine tablets, face masks.
*To arrange for sending a team of doctors, pharmacists and volunteers for general rehabilitation and social workers, psychologists and other trained people for medical care
