Mangaluru: Konkani ’Kittall Yuva Puroskar’ goes to Melwin Kolalgiri

Mangaluru, Aug 11, 2015:  Melwin Mascharenas whose pen-name is ’Melwin, Kolalgiri’ was  chosen for Leo Rodrigues Family Kittall Yuva Puroskar 2015 for his writings.

Melwin, is well known for writing essays, research articles, analytical passages, , criticism, poems and skits. Known for his theatre activities, he works as a lecturer in Psychology at St Ann’s Group of Institutions, Mulki is popular among Konkani readers.

The kittall youth award was started in 2012 and consists of purse of Rs 10,000 and a memento. Earlier recipients are Fr Jo Cy Siddakatte, OCD, Wilma Bantwal and Stany Bela. The award is sponsored by NRI entrepreneur and Konkani Supporter Leo Rodrigues, Abu Dhabi.

Poet and thinker Titus Noronha headed the jury. The jury considered Melwin’s Konkani and Kannada writings and took into account the impact made by Melwin’s writing.

The award ceremony will take place at the auditorium of Udupi Bishop’s House on August 15 . The Director of Catholic Education Society of Udupi Diocese (CESU) and former Director of St John’s Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore Rev Dr Lawrence C D’ Souza will hand over the award.   In the same programme, Konkani Music Album "Tujem Rupnem" produced by three Souza’s - Marian and Anil of Pernal and Wilfred R from Pangala will be released.
