Mangaluru: KIOCL to export 66,500 tonnes of pellets to Iran

Mangaluru, Jan 3, 2016: The first consignment of high-grade pellets  of Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd. is expected to be shipped to Iran on January 4, Monday. The process of loading of the 66,500 tonnes of pellets commenced at New Mangaluru Port on January 2, Saturday.

Malay Chatterjee, KIOCL Chairman and Managing Director who spoke to reporters here on Saturday said  the  pellets were procured from high-grade iron ore imported from Brazil.  The export of pellets  by KIOCL will  help reap substantial foreign exchange to the nation while also helping the company, he added.

 

Chatterjee also informed that KIOCL plans to  ship as much as 5 lakh tonnes of high grade pellets to Iran during 2016.

Skill development programmes for youth : The Kudremukh Iron Ore company Ltd  in association with the National Skill Development Corporation  plans to offer training to youth  in skills essential to  get job opportunities in the mining sector.

According to Malay Chatterjee the plans are to  provide training  in beneficiation (Process of removing unnecessary materials from ore) and pelletisation  to  youth who  have Class 12 educational qualification.  The KIOCL has already entered into an MoU with Quess, a Bengaluru based firm, he said adding as per plans nearly 40  students would be imparted skill development training.

On the controversy over   alleged  sale of some old houses and a hostel in Kudremukh area to  Dr Mohan Alva of Alva’s education Foundation,  Chatterjee said  the KIOCL has authorised Alva to  maintain the hostel and the old houses which will be used by  students and parents. He also stated that a licence fee will be paid for the same by Alva. He further revealed how his company was suffering an annual loss of nearly Rs 22 crore  due to its inability to  maintain its assets.

The government was also planning an anti-terrorist  training academy in Kudremukh, he added.
