Mangaluru, May 16, 2015: A person from Bhadravathi in Shivamogga district who is lying on the bed of Wenlock Hospital in the city is in deep pain owing to a tragic incident in his home town resulting in the piercing of an iron rod in his face. An iron rod which has pierced through his jaws above his neck has protruded through the portion of the jaw near his ear.
The person named Venkatesh (60), a mason by profession in Bhadravathi was sitting on the roadside where a drainage work was underway nearby on May 14, Thursday night. As it rained, Venkatesh suddenly decided to go away from the spot, but to his misfortune, he slipped and fell straight onto an iron rod that pierced through his face and protruded on the other end near his ear.
A large crowd which gathered at the spot managed to cut the rod using an axo blade and later shifted him to the Meggaon Hospital in Shivamogga. However, as doctors there said they were unable to treat him, he was shifted to Wenlock Hospital on May 15, Friday.
Though his life is out of danger, Venkatesh has suffered heavy loss of blood and is in severe pain. Wenlock Hospital sources said efforts would be made to remove the remaining piece of rod in Venkatesh’s face through a surgery.
