Mangaluru: International kite festival takes off with flying colours

Mangaluru, Jan 16, 2016: Kite flyers from India and abroad showed their skills of flying kites on the first day of kite festival which kicked off in Panambur beach on Saturday, Jan 16.

The two-day International Kite Festival in city was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim and Nivedith Alva, Chairman of Coastal Development Authority.

The first day of the festival saw a huge turnout of people, who came to witness kites of various shapes such as dragon-shaped, hexagon, ring etc in the skies.

Kite flyers from 13 countries namely France, Germany, Holland/Netherlands, Australia, U.K.,Turkey, Kuwait, Italy, Thailand, Nigeria, Cambodia, Singapore and Ukraine along with three national teams from Dahanu, Mumbai and Hyderabad were participated in the event.

This is the fifth international kite festival in Mangaluru hosted by Team Mangalore, a hobby group of kite flyers, and Rotary International District 3180 Zone IV, the kites will be flown between 2.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on the two days which will culminate on Sunday Jan 17.
