Mangaluru: ICYM raises funds for cancer patient at condolence meet for Dr Abdul Kalam

Mangaluru, July 29, 2015:  The ICYM of Mangaluru Diocese organised a  condolence meeting at the War Memorial at Kadri  on July 28, Tuesday to  pay homage and a unique tribute to  former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam who passed away on Monday.

The occasion was utilised by the organisers to raise funds  towards medical treatment of 8 year old Navyashree who is suffering from cancer.

Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo who spoke at the function described Dr Kalam as a great visionary  who was  fond of children and youth. The values he advocated will forever serve as a guiding light to humanity, Lobo said and added that this would be the true tribute which one can pay to Dr Kalam.

Ivan D’Souza, MLC also paid rich tributes to Dr Kalam and appreciated ICYM for its initiative to raise funds for the little girl who is suffering from cancer. Upon a request from ICYM, Ivan said he would try to secure grants from the CM’s relief fund for the girl’s treatment which would cost around Rs 2.5 lakhs.

Candles were lit on the occasion to pay homage to the late former President. Alwyn D’Souza, President of ICYM, Mangaluru Chapter, Fr Ronald, its Director,  Hemanth Kumar, a relative of Navyashree and others were present.
