Mangaluru: Hundreds participate in protest, pledge support for Kambala

Mangaluru, Jan 27, 2017: A massive protest that  was organised at Hampankatta on January 27, Friday demanding withdrawal of ban on Kambala, the traditional sport of the coastal districts, saw the participation of hundreds of people including politicians, students, film artistes and members of Tulunada Rakshana Vedike.

Prominent among the participants were  BA Moidin Bava, MLA of Mangaluru North,   Jagadish Shenava, Sharan Pumpwell, Satyajit Suratkal, leaders of Hindu outfits,  Vijaykumar Kodialbal, Devadas Kapikad, Tulu film and theatre personalities,  Naveen D Padil and Bhojaraj Vamanjoor, actors.

A human chain was also formed for the cause by students of various colleges including Mangaluru University College, Canara College and KPT.

MLA Bava who addressed the gathering, said the  protest for the cause of  Kambala will continue until Government lifts the ban.  The Kambala as a  sport has unified the people and they will protest transcending all barriers, he declared.

Theatre director Vijaykumar Kodialbail, in his address  said  there is no instance of buffaloes being tortured during Kambala.  Kambala cannot be compared to Tamil Nadu’s Jallikattu in any way, he added.

Dinaker Shetty and others also addressed the protestors.
