Addressing the protestors, Ivan accused the Union Government of completely failing to control the price of fuel. The government has also refused to bring fuel prices under GST, he said.  The price of petrol which was Rs 65 per litre in 2014 has now risen  to Rs 81.63 despite  reduction in price of crude oil in the international market, he said.

He also pointed out how LPG price which was Rs 400 per cylinder in 2014 has   more than doubled and is Rs 813  this year. The Prime Minister does not understand the plight of the common man, he alleged.

Deputy Mayor Mohammad Kunjathbail and several Congress leaders and workers as well as representatives of various organisations took part in the protest.

Meanwhile, the CPI(M) and the  DK Online Taxi Owners and Drivers’ Association too organised protests against fuel price hike.
