Mangaluru : Heavy rains uproot trees, one dead in compound wall collapse

Mangaluru, June 13, 2020:    Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds  in several parts of the district since  Saturday has   resulted in uprooting of trees at several places.  Agricultural crops were also damaged at some places in the district.

In Gurupur, a man died  after a compound wall collapsed over him.The incident occurred at Mulur village. The deceased has been identified as Narayana Naika (52).

In Mangaluru trees got uprooted at Bajal and Attavar due to strong winds. At Tantri Lane, Kottara Chowki and at Rani Abbakka Park, near Bengre, two trees fell over houses.

 There have been reports of damage to areca crops at Kuppetti in Belthangady. In Sullia a man   was hospitalised after he fell ill following lightning strike. At Naraje, a man who was speaking  on mobile phone collapsed due to lightning strike. He was rushed to hospital.

The Weather Department  has predicted heavy rains in the district. An orange alert has been sounded  on June 14, while yellow alert has been given from June 15 to 17.
