Mangaluru, Sep 11, 2015:  Education would be meaningless unless our students understand the significance and value of culture and tradition, said Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala.

He was speaking after inaugurating a value orientation programme called ‘Prajna’ organised for lecturers of colleges under the aegis of Ramakrishna Mutt, Mangaladevi on September 11, Friday.

Continuing the governor stated that the youth have the power to change the world. They should pursue education with a mission in life and should also contribute towards the progress of the society, he added.

A teacher earns great respect from the society, the Governor said and exhorted teachers to shape the future of the citizens of tomorrow with great zeal and dedication.

Ramakrishna Mutt President Swami Jithakamandaji Maharaj said teachers play a crucial role in guiding the students on the right direction.

N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University who was present as a chief guest, while highlighting the role of teachers, said a teacher has a sense of great satisfaction when his old students recognise him or her even after several years.

Prof. K Bhyrappa, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC and others were present. The Governor was honoured on the occasion by Swami Jithakamanandaji Maharaj by gifting him a portrait of Swami Vivekananda.
