Mangaluru : Escaped murder convict traced in a lodge

Mangaluru, Apr 24, 2015: As was reported in this site,   Akshay (27) a convict who was among five persons found guilty of the murder of Kumar  a resident of Mallakadu in 2012; and had  escaped from police custody after being convicted in a murder case on April 22, Wednesday, was found in a lodge near Surathakal early on April 23. The II Additional District and Sessions Court, is to pronounce the quantum of punishment, it  directed jail authorities to produce him before the court on April 24, today, it is learnt.

Judge Sunil Joshi,   had convicted Santosh Poojary, Goutam, Akshay, Goureesh and Harsharaj under Sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 143 (unlawful assembly),147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapons) and 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code. They were also convicted under Section 3 (2) (v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The judge put Akshay and four others into the custody of Head Constable Damodar and ordered them to be produced before the court later.  Under pretext of going to toilet, Akshay escaped from the court premises. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravi Kumar said that after an extensive search, the police found Akshay in a lodge near Surathkal  after a tip off.   Following a complaint by Damondar, Akshay was arrested and produced before the III Judicial Magistrate First Class court. The court remanded him in judicial custody.

The II Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunil Joshi directed the Mangaluru District Prison authorities to produce Akshay, along with the other four convicts, on April 24, Friday when he will sentence with  the quantum of punishment.
