Mangaluru Eid joy not dampened by rains

Mangaluru, July 07, 2016: The joy of Eid-al-Fitr could not be dampened by the monsoon  downpour, cold winds and bad road situation in the coastal city of Mangaluru. Holy month of Ramzan was ended  amidst prayers , charity and get-togethers on Eid-Ul-Fitr on July 6, Wednesday.

Thousands of Muslim gathered at the famous historic  Idgah Mosque at Light House Hill to extend greeting of the festival. The community celebrated Eid in true spirit and fervour by offering prayers and visiting houses of their loved ones.

Dakshina Kannada district qazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar led the namaz and the prayer meet held at Idgah Juma Masjid. In his address to community, the qazi asked all to work towards global peace, unity and harmony. Mentioning recent terror attacks across globe, he pointed out the Islam does not propagate such activities and does not encourage killing of people. He also asked Muslim youths to give up drugs and keep away from substance abuse.

Special prayers were offered at various mosques in the city to mark the beginning of the festival in the morning. Community members from all sections of the society thronged their nearby masjids to offer prayers to almighty. Prayers were offered at Kankanady Juma Masjid, Taqwa Masjid, Pumpwell, Kudroli Juma Masjid, Noor Masjid, Hampankatta, Katchi Masjid, Bunder, Bikkarnakatte Masjid and many other places in the city. Separate arrangements were made for women to offer namaz on the occasion.
