The judgement said they will have to undergo an additional one year of imprisonment if they fail to pay the fine.
Those convicted are Jeevan (37) and Dilesh (35) of Taliparamba in Kannur.
The incident had taken place on April 1, 2014. As it was a dry day in Kerala that day the three friends had come to Mangaluru by a car after lying at home that they were going for blood donation. They booked a room at a lodge here, consumed alcohol and began playing cards. When Jeevan lost all his money Sajesh had availed Rs 30,000 from his aunt and had given it to him as loan. Later when Sajesh asked to return that money there arose a clash and the lodge management asked them to vacate the room.
The trio had again consumed liquor. Later in the night the two accused took Sajesh near a petrol bunk at Ujjodi where they killed him by hitting his head with an interlock tile. The body was found next day by the petrol bunk staff.
A case was registered as per the complaint lodged by Sajesh’s sister. A total of 29 witnesses and 41 documents were produced before the court during hearing.
