Mangaluru: Drug Peddler arrested under Goonda Act

Mangaluru, Oct 4, 2016: Mangaluru North Police detained drug peddler under Goonda Act on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. Arrested has been identified as Rahim (41) a resident of Bunder, informed Police Commissoner Chandrashekar.

Addressing media at Commissioner’s office he said that Rahim has been involved in drug peddling activities such as selling ganja to people especially college students from the past 5 years in Mangaluru city and around.

He further stated that, total of 8 NDPS cases were registered against him. So far, 40 raids have been conducted. 135 drug addicts have been identified and shifted them to de addiction center. Out of 135 most of them are school and college drop outs, said Chandrashekar.

He also said that, drug addicts need to be treated well and more emphasis should be given for counseling which is the best way to treat drug addicts. If they are neglected and socially boycotted then they may indulge more in illegal activities.

Rahim has been charged under Goonda Act with illegal activities and drug peddling. He has been sent to judicial custody and later shifted to Bellary Jail.
