Mangaluru: District Police observe Martyr’s day

Mangaluru Oct 21, 2016: The sacrifices of Policemen in the line of duty were marked with solemnity during the Police Martyrs Day at the District Armed Reserve Police Office Ground today October 21 Friday.

District Session Judge KS Bilagi received guard of honor and later floral tribute was paid by District Police officials for nearly 473 police martyrs who lost their lives over the past year.


Addressing the gathering Session Judge KS Bilagi said that, Police and Judges have close bonding, whenever Police brings the case to the court it is responsibility of the judge to provide justice. Police and Judges have retirement age of 60 but for humanity there is no such restriction.


He also said that, Police are the strength of the society to protect from the violence and make sure people are safe. Police are meant to serve for the society but when a Police personal sacrifices his life no one is bothered and the martyr is sidelined. People and government should come forward to help the family of the martyrs.

Police should be strict and not be harsh while dealing with people and should perform our duty with integrity, he added.


Police Commissioner M Chandrashekar said that, nearly 473 policemen have been remembered on this occasion who lost their lives while safeguarding our country. Country is facing internal as well as external threats such as Terrorism, Naxalism and Rowdysm which we face every now and then. People need to understand that dying for nation is not sacrifice but Policemen have no time to spend with families or to plan holidays, we work for 15 to 16 hours daily which create difference in our family.

He also said that, media should highlight the duties of policemen so that people should realize our work and our sacrifices. It is not only sacrificing our lives but we sacrifice our family too.

DC KG Jagadeesha, DCP Law and Order Shantharaju, DCP Crime and Traffic Sanjeev Patil, ACP Uday Nayak, ACP Thilakchandra, ACP Shruthi, Additional SP Dr Vedamurthy, ASP Rishyanth and others were present.
