Mangaluru : District Administration pays tribute to May 22, 2010 air crash victims

Mangaluru, May 22, 2016 : The District Administration had arranged a memorial service at the main junction near Kulur Bridge on Sunday to pay respects to the victims of the May 22, 2010 Air India Express crash that claimed the lives of 158 passengers.

The bodies of 12 victims which could not be identified by family members were buried at this very same place six years ago. DK District in-charge Minister and other dignitaries who were present, placed flowers and paid respects to the crash victims.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim who spoke on the occasion, said though the earlier plans were to set up a park at the crash site, it has now been decided to have a park at Kulur and added that NMPT has come forward to offer Rs 60 lakh for the proposed memorial park. A memorial for the crash victims will also be constructed at a cost of Rs 9 lakh, he informed.

JT Radhakrishna, Director of Mangaluru International Airport, D Gopalakrishna, MCC Commissioner, Suresh P Shirwadkar, NMPT Deputy Director,  Ibrahim Kodijal, MUDA Chairman, Shantaraju, DCP (Law and Order) and others were present.
