Mangaluru: DKMUL to extend supply to fringe areas of DK district

Mangaluru, May 31, 2015: DKMUL -  Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union,  is set to extend its supply territory to the fringe  areas of the district such as Madanthyar, Sullia and Salettur.   At a media briefing here on May 30, Saturday, DKMUL president Raviraj Hegde said these areas did not have any Nandini milk dealers.   Direct supply of milk to these areas in the next few days is to commence. Sales of 10,000 litres per day in these areas id targetted.

Covering these border areas was part of their plans to  increase the sale of milk and other brands of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) to new areas this year.  From a time when the dairy met only 50 per cent of overall milk requirement in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, DKMUL has taken measures to improve milk procurement and has reached 85 per cent coverage in the districts.

The average milk procurement was at 2.92 lakh litres as against the demand of nearly 4 lakh litres in 2014-15. This year they had set a target of procuring 3.31 lakh litres, Mr. Hegde said.   President Hegde said that there had been a five per cent increase in the sale of milk and other products of KMF in 2014-15.

The new initiative to open  Nandini franchise outlets in different parts of the city has raised the brand value of Nandini and has generated a business of Rs. 36 lakh, he said.

Among the new initiatives :   Production of milk in flexi packs will begin with the opening of the new flexi pack and production unit coming up in the dairy in another six months. It has also planned to launch new fruit yogurt in November, he said.

The Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union will celebrate World Milk Day on June 1 by distributing milk at an anganwadi and at the Government Wenlock Hospital.

DKMUL president Raviraj Hegde said they will visit an anganwadi in Jeppu at 7.30 a.m. and distribute milk. Then they will distribute milk to patients at Wenlock hospital. Health Minister U.T. Khader and Mangaluru South MLA J.R. Lobo will attend the event. A programme will also be held at the DKMUL dairy in Kulashekara at 2.30 p.m., where district in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the guest house. staged a unique protest by bringing children who have not been enrolled at schools and teaching them at Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangaluru on May 27.   Sangha President Dinesh Hegde Ulepady said the kids were extremely poor and were unable to pay fees.

These poor children are denied education and neglected by authorities who have not acted to admit them in any school.  Their parents toil day and night to make a living they have no time to attend their children’s schooling matters.

To underscore the failure of authorities in facilitating  children right to education, they were brought to the DC office where they held slates with letters written on them.

Ulepady appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to direct Deputy Director of Public Instruction(DDPI) to make arrangements for the children who have been deprived education. DK DC Adoor B Ibrahim said necessary action would be taken to ensure the children get education. Leaders of the protest stated that education leads to the formation of good and responsible citizens in future. These students deserve education. On looker were moved by the plight of the poor children.
