Mangaluru, July 05, 2019 : City Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil has informed that the police have succeeded in cracking a cyber crime case.
Addressing a press meet here on July 5, Friday, the Commissioner said a person named Yusuf Khan (30) has been arrested from Chakrapuri in New Delhi. The investigation was taken up after a victim filed a complaint alleging that some fraudsters were making calls offering loans at lower interest rates. The Commissioner said the police are on the lookout for two other accused named Prabhaker and Naushad. All the three are from Uttar Pradesh and operated from an office in the national capital, the Commissioner informed.
As per the complaint, the accused used to call people and enter into a conversation and secure the Aadhar, bank account number PAN details etc. They used to then ask to deposit an amount as part of EMI. It is learnt the victim had accordingly deposited Rs 1.7 lakhs after which the caller was not reachable.
The Commissioner said the police have seized Rs 70,000 cash, 31 cell phones and two laptops. He said they used to make around 400 calls every day and manage to trap nearly 60 to 70.
Sandeep Patil also stated that so far 144 cyber crime cases have been registered in the district.
