Mangaluru, July 10, 2015: The copious rains July 9, have also brought smiles on the faces of farmers, who were worried over scanty rainfall in the last few days for crucial farming activities. For others in DK the down pour brought back good old memories of monsoons.
The rains started to lash in the wee hours of July 9, continued throughout the day and night too. While the district received 76.2 mm rains between July 1 and July 8, the district received 64.7 mm rains in a single day on July 9. Except for a compound wall collapse in Moodushedde on the outskirts of Mangaluru, no untoward incidents have been reported in DK.
Most of the roads were inundated with rain water and students as well as citizens were seen wading through the rainwater in many parts of the City as well as district. While a few four-wheel drivers enjoyed to zoom through the rainwater on the highways and City roads, it was a nightmare for office-goers as well as school going children as they had to protect themselves from the rains as well as splashing rain water on the road.
The met office has forecast heavy rain for the next two days, while stating that there will be moderate rainfall thereafter till July 15. The temperature too is expected to be pleasant with the maximum hovering between 26 degrees and 27 degrees Celsius.
