Mangaluru, Jan 07, 2020:   Members of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee will hold a protest asking Union Home Minister Amit Shah to “go back” from Mangaluru if he proceeds with the proposed visit to the city for Citizenship Amendment Act awareness programme on January 19, said MLC Ivan D’Souza and DCC president K. Harish Kumar here on Monday.

Speaking with reporters, Mr. D’Souza held Mr. Shah responsible for attacks by masked people on students on the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus in New Delhi on Sunday. Mr. Shah has caused turmoil across the country by getting the CAA passed in the Parliament and linking it with the proposed National Register of Citizenship exercise.

“We do not want him to hold a meeting and create more unrest in the city, which is slowly returning to normalcy following the police firing (on December 19). If he still holds the meeting, we will hold a ‘Go back Amit Shah’ protest,” Mr. D’Souza said and added that he and Mr. Kumar will also sit on a hunger strike.

Mr. Kumar said Mr. Shah and other BJP activists have now lost moral ground to hold house-to-house visits to dispel doubts about the CAA. He said the recent statement of BJP MLA Somashekar Reddy reflected the mindset of party against minorities. “Reddy should be booked for sedition and removed from the party,” he added.
