Mangaluru: Coast Guards Rescues Fishing Vessel in distress

Karwar, Feb 04, 2016: In another successful operation by Indian Coast Guard at Karwar, in the wee hours of 04 February 2016 morning, Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) C-155 provided assistance to fishermen of Fishing Vessel Siddi Lakshmi (Reg No. KA-03-MM-2560) which reported engine room flooding at sea approx 48 Nm from Karwar.

On the night of 03 February 2016, Indian Coast Guard Station Karwar received inputs from CSP, Malpe regarding fishing boat FV Siddhi Laxami in distress due to excessive water ingress. ICGS Karwar took prompt action and deployed ICGS C-155 in the dark hours of 03 February 2016 for search and rescue operation. The ship reached area in no time and provided necessary assistance to the boat that had sustained a crack in the FRP joint of the hull resulting in flooding in engine room.

After ascertaining the safety of the crew and boat, the ship then escorted the boat till Karwar fishing harbour and also helped them in pumping out ingressed water in the boat. The boat along with 07 number crew is now safe and is under repairs at Karwar fishing harbour.
