Mangaluru: Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (CGWWA) celebrates Tatrakshika day

Mangaluru, Nov 29, 2017: Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (CGWWA) also known as Tatrakshika celebrated ’TATRAKSHIKA DAY’ with the theme of Swachh Bharat and Swachh Sagar at Thannirbhavi Beach, Mangalore on 29 November 2017. The aim of the event was to sensitise the Coast Guard fraternity and society for Clean India by maintaining Clean Seas, Clean Shores and Clean Environment.

Tatrakshika organization has been formally set up, run and managed by the wives of Coast Guard Personnel since 29 November 1994. The motto of Tatrakshika is ’Self Help’ and every member voluntarily contributes her time, talent and skills towards improving the quality of life within the Coast Guard community. Tatrakshika has grown into a multirole organisation rendering yeoman service to the society, needy and its members.
 
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) aims to clean up the streets, roads and infrastructure of India’s cities, smaller towns and rural areas. The campaign was officially launched on 02 October 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. It is India’s largest cleanliness drive till date with 03 million Government employees, school students and college students from all parts of India participating in 4,041 statutory cities, towns and associated rural areas. In September 2016, Indian Coast Guard launched Swachh Sagar Abhiyan, extending the cleanliness drive to Maritime Zones of India.

Tatrakshika is a highly active and vibrant organisation which has been regularly extending support to old aged people, orphans, cleanliness drives and many other social and communal causes.

Tatrakshikas of Mangalore, Karwar and Bangalore celebrated the Tatrakshika Day by spreading the message of social welfare and upliftment. 

60 ladies belonging to Coast Guard Mangalore fraternity came together and engaged in cleanliness drive at Tannirbhavi Beach. The debris mainly consisted of plastic bottles, food wrappers, polythene bags and household garbage. The collected debris was handed over to garbage pickup vehicle.

The occasion was also used to engage in small games like musical chairs, throwing the ball, filling water into glass etc with an aim to build team spirit and cohesiveness.

Deputy Inspector General SS Dasila, TM, Commander, Coast Guard Karnataka accompanied by Coast Guard officers, was also present at the venue. The Coast Guard officers participated in tandem with their spouses. Speaking on the occasion, the Commander stated, "Tatrakshika has been engaging in social causes including cleanliness campaigns, Swachh Bharat and Swachh Sagar as derived by the vision of Director General Indian Coast Guard. Many people think that the life of a Coast Guard wife is easy, but, it is not as they strike a balance between Coast Guard wife with a happy life." The Commander also wished best of luck to the members of Tatrakshika for their future endeavours.
