Mangaluru, Jan 1, 2017: A heated exchange of words between two friends during New Year celebrations culminated in the murder of one of them on the night of December 31, Saturday at Kuttar.
The deceased has been identified as Rudravani Santosh (25) from Davangere. The accused is Pradeep of Shikaripura. Both of them worked at a saloon owned by a person named Ramesh at Kuttar. On December 31 both had decided to celebrate New Year at their rented accommodation which was just above the saloon where they worked.
It has been gathered that both had purchased liquor and were enjoying the same when suddenly Santosh did not like Pradeep speaking to a woman. That was enough for both to engage in a duel under the influence of alcohol. During the altercation, Santosh even had reportedly shouted at Pradeep’s mother. Infuriated over this, Pradeep picked up a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Santosh.
The saloon owner who rushed to the spot on hearing their screams rushed Santosh to the hospital but he reportedly died on way. Sources said even Pradeep helped the saloon owner
The accused later surrendered at the Ullal Police station. It has been gathered that the deceased Santosh was planning to marry in March while his sister was scheduled to marry on February 15.
