Mangaluru City Corporation poverty mitigation schemes in action

Mangaluru, Sep 25, 2015: Mayor Jacinta Vijaya Alfred said that the Mangaluru City Corporation is committed to providing smart basic facilities to the people.  The revenue generated through taxes and government grants she said are being utilised to provide the benefits.

The Mangaluru Mayor was speaking at a programme Sept 24, a total of 923 free LPG connections, Rs 50,000 was distributed to 10 beneficiaries as auto rickshaw subsidies and an equal amount was given to two beneficiaries as self-employment subsidies by the Poverty Elimination Cell of the Corporation.

Health and education standing committee President Prakash B Salian said that 4,191 free LPG connections have been distributed to beneficiaries within the MCC administration limits so far, as a move to make MCC limits kerosene-free.

Leader of the Opposition in the MCC Council Sudish Shetty referred to a need to create greater awareness among the people about the welfare programmes undertaken by the MCC. There are 6,000 applicants for free LPG connections, and 4,191 connections have been provided. Many of the other beneficiaries should be provided the facility soon.

Deputy Mayor Purushottam Chitrapur, MCC Council Whip Shashidhar Hegde, Corporators Asha D’Silva, Ratikala, Appi and Nagaveni were present among others.
