Mangaluru Citizens pay homage to Siachen Martyrs

Mangalore Feb 13, 2016: Dakshina Kannada Ex-Servicemen’s Association, Mangaluru along with Shastavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust, Lions Clubs International, District 317 D and Rotary Club organised a programme at War Memorial at Kadri Park on February 13, Saturday to pay homage to  Brave Heart Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad and eight others who lost their lives in the Siachen avalanche.

In his address, Brigadier T N Rai said that the brave soldiers have laid down their lives  for the cause of their motherland while safeguarding their nation amid extreme weather conditions at Siachen.

 Lion Kavita Shastri, Governor of Lions Club said "These soldiers have given up their lives so that we can live our tomorrow."

The participants paid rich tributes to Lance Nayak Hanumanthappa, Subedar Nagesh, Havaldar Elumalai, Lance Havaldar S Kumar, Lance Naik Sudheesh, Sepoy Mahesha, Sepoy Ganesan, Sepoy Rama Moorthy, Sepoy Mustaq Ahmed and Sepoy Nursing Assistant Suryawanshi.

Col N Sharath Bhandary, coordinator of Dakshina Kannada Ex-Servicemen’s Association, Maruthi G Nayak, Inspector, Mangaluru East Police Station, Arjun Rai of Shasthavu Shree Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust and others were present.
