Mangaluru, Sep 08, 2017: Suo moto cases have been filed against 50 BJP leaders and members including State BJP President BS Yeddyurappa, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Udupi MP Shobha Karandlaje, Prahlad Joshi, Eshwarappa and Jagadish Shettar by the Bunder police for converging at Jyothi Circle on September 7, Thursday for the Mangaluru Chalo protest instead of Nehru Maidan, in violation of the guidelines laid down by the police. Cases have been filed under IPC section 143 and 149 and Sections 106 and 108 of the Karnataka Police Act.
The cops had earlier permitted the BJP Yuva Morcha to hold the protest only at Nehru Maidan. But the BJP leaders gathered at Jyothi Circle causing traffic hurdles during the rush hours.
Acting upon a complaint filed by Bunder Inspector Shantharam the police have registered cases against the BJP leaders. Two trucks, banners, stage equipment and sound box have also been seized.
The cases have been filed under Sections 106 and 108 of the Karnataka Police Act, and Sections 143 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code.
