Mangaluru-Bengaluru train route restored after landslip

Mangaluru, June 15, 2018: Train traffic that was affected due to landslide on the Shirady Ghat section over Hassan–Mangaluru section on Thursday was restored by 5.30pm.

Continuous heavy rain resulted in landslide on the railway line at kilometre 86/200–85/900 between Shirivagilu and Subramhanya Road railway stations over Mysuru division of South Western Railway, divisional railway PRO Y G Sathish, said.

Train 16516 Karwar–Yesvantpur express had reached Subrahmanya Road station when the landslide occurred. All the passengers were provided food and beverages at the station. The train was cancelled between Subrahmanya Road and Yesvantpur for the day and full refund of fare arranged for passengers of the train at Subrahmanya Road station.

The empty rake was sent to Mangaluru junction and passengers who were willing to return to Mangalore allowed to travel in the train.

Train 16575 Yesvantpur–Mangaluru junction Gomateshwara express was cancelled between Kadagaravalli and Mangaluru junction for the day. Since Kadagaravalli is a block station with facilities available only for operational purposes, food items were moved in train engine from Sakleshpur and provided to passengers.

The train was brought from Kadagaravalli to Hassan junction where passengers could move by alternate transport facilities to their places of choice. KSRTC officials at Hassan were alerted about arrival of passengers at Hassan station.
