Mangaluru : Bar Assn sets 3-day deadline for arrest of suspended Kadri inspector Nagaraj

Mangaluru, Aug 2, 2015:  Mangaluru Bar Association President Chengappa has set a three day deadline to the Police Department to arrest the suspended Kadri police inspector TD Nagaraj who has been charged with assaulting a lawyer in the police station.

Chengappa who spoke to reporters on August 1, Saturday  accused  Nagaraj of abusing and assaulting  advocate Uttam Rai who had been to the station on July 30, along with his  clients Sandeep Shetty as well as Ratnaker of Bhuvi Enterprises. He even charged the cop of snatching a gold chain worth Rs 5000 of  the advocate apart from  cash and cell phone. “Nagaraj even threatened to include Rai in the rowdy sheet and debar him from the Bar Council,” alleged Chengappa.

He further stated that the inspector had offended the entire fraternity of lawyers by pushing Uttam Rai inside the lock-up.

Chengappa said  the Police Department had bowed to the pressure of the lawyers who had staged a flash protest outside the Kadri Police Station following the incident and had suspended Nagaraj  and slapped non-bailable cases under IPC Sections 323, 341, 504, 506, 384, 386, 394, 511 and 34.

“The authorities have given an assurance to arrest Nagaraj as well as other police personnel involved in the incident,” said Chengappa.

The Bar Council President informed that advocate Uttam Rai is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru and that even the inspector who has got admitted to a hospital has filed a counter complaint against Uttam Rai accusing him of coming in the way of a police officer from discharging his duty.
