Mangaluru : Backward Classes Welfare Officer arrested for raping minor

Mangaluru, April 1, 2017: District Backward Classes Welfare Officer  Dr Nagarajappa (49) has been arrested by the personnel of the Women’s Police Station on  the charges of  raping a minor girl  who resided at  the  Backward Classes Hostel at Ashoknagar.

It has been alleged that the  officer  sexually assaulted the girl at the office of the hostel. Sources said the accused who visited  the hostel frequently on the pretext of  inspection used to summon the girl  often to his office.

 When other inmates of the hostel grew suspicious and enquired the girl, she had revealed the truth. The Women’s Police who gathered hint of the same after securing the statement of the girl have arrested the officer.

The medical examination of the girl has proved that she has been raped.

 The accused has been booked under POCSO and remanded to judicial custody.
