Mangaluru: BJP blames Mayor for stalemate in MCC

Mangaluru, June 2, 2015: Sudhir Shetty (BJP) opposition leader in Mangaluru City Corporation blamed Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred Lobo for the stalemate in the development projects in the city on Tuesday, June 02.  Addressing the media persons at the Press Club today Sudhir Shetty claimed that there is total collapse of administration in MCC. Ever since Jacintha Lobo took over as Mayor, the City Corporation has been fighting with officials and is not allowing the officers to work. She wants the officers to dance to her tunes.

In fact the Mayor is just a rubber stamp of chief whip of the ruling Congress M Shashidhar Hegde, she goes by decisions taken by and former Mayor Mahabala Marla, the BJP claimed.

Sudheer Shetty, leader of the opposition said only 77 out of 110 works in the second tranche of Rs 100 crore special grants given by the chief minister have been completed at an expenditure of Rs 29 crore. However, 33 major works including construction of model road at Mannagudda and Mangaladevi at an estimated cost of Rs 71 works are yet to be initiated or taken up.  

Captn, Karnik, BJP MLC criticised the district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai for the current standoff in MCC.  He hit out at Congress corporators for the delay of Town Hall renovation work and other development works. He demanded alternative arrangements to host cultural activties in the city if MCC can not complete the renovation work.

The ruling party in MCC has betrayed the people by increasing the property tax by 15 percent and the solid waste management cess said Opposition Corporator, Premanand Shetty. The ADB project fund of  Rs 380 crore for the first phase is still not completed. He opposed the demand for the approval for yet another ADB loan of Rs 160 crore for waters supply works and Rs 120 crore UGD in the second phase. 

No works are taken up under the Rs 100 crore special grants and blamed District in-charge Minister’s failure in reviewing progress of the existing and other works taken up under the grants. Important works like laying footpaths and drains along concrete roads are also in stalemate.
