Mangaluru: Assault on Journalists at Suralpaadi mosque ; DKWJU demands action

Mangaluru Sep 7, 2016: Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union handed over a  memorandum to Police Commissioner M Chandrashekar and  Deputy Commissioner Dr KG Jagadeesh today September 7, Wednesday, demanding stringent action against those who assaulted four journalists of different media houses and forcibly confined them in a room for two hours  at Suralpaadi mosque premises near Bajpe on September 6 Tuesday.

On the morning of September 6 Journalists Nagesh Padu, Bharath Raj, Wilfred D’Souza and Irshad had been to Suralpaadi mosque to collect information about social boycott of Bava Padarangi from the mosque.

When they had finished  collecting information from the mukhri of the mosque,  a group of ten people entered the premises and insulted and assaulted journalists with abusive language.

One of TV reporter managed to escape from the attackers and inform  DCP Shantharaju about the incident. Nagesh Padu, Wilfred and Irshad were forced to sit in the car and attempts were also made to snatch their cameras in the process damaging them.

 Journalists  have demanded stringent action against the assaulters.

 DCP Crime and Traffic Dr Sanjeev M Patil has assured to take strict action against the assaulters.
