Mangaluru: Arrests of anti-SEZ agitators spark protests in front of 2 police stations

Mangaluru, Sep 4, 2015 : The police action of arresting as many as 34 people including 11 women for staging protests and thwarting the road works at Jokatte, has triggered protests from locals on September 3, Thursday.

Hundreds gathered in front of the Suratkal police station demanding the release of the arrested. Meanwhile, people also gathered in front of Panambur police station on getting information that those arrested have been taken to Panambur station.

 Though most of those arrested were released, four of them including DYFI District President Muneer Katipalla, Moidin, Shamshuddin and Hakeem were produced before the court.

It has been learn that MRPL has filed a case against the protesters  alleging  that they had come in the way of the works.

 The DYFI leaders are alleging that the SEZ had flouted the rules by not adhering to the local GP resolution against going  ahead with any work until the impasse is solved.
