Mangaluru, Oct 29, 2015: A huge rally taken out by Anganavadi teachers and helpers to protest against the controversial Yettinahole project was flagged off on October 29, Thursday by Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred near the Mangala Stadium. The rally concluded near the DC office where a public protest meet was organised. DK District Anganavadi Workers, Teachers and Helpers Association had organised the rally.
Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC who addressed the press meet urged the government to shelve the project before it proves to be an utter failure. Stating that the project was nothing but a waste of public funds. Describing the project as unscientific, he said only those who implement the project would benefit but not people of Kolar and other so called beneficiary districts.
Fr. J B Crasta, Parish Priest of Rosario Church cited the example of Varahi Project which had cost a lot on the state exchequer but failed to yield desired results. The same may be the fate of the Yettinahole project, he feared.
MG Hegde, social activist who also spoke on the occasion said there is no reason to believe the government statement that 24 TMC ft of water was available at Yettinahole during monsoon. DK District is already facing water problem and providing water to some other district in such a situation is unfeasible, he added.
He was also highly critical of the Deputy Director of Women and Child Welfare Department who reportedly had directed the Anganavadi staff not to take part in the protest.
Purushottam Chitrapur, Deputy Mayor, PV Mohan, AICC Member and many others were present on the occasion.
