Mangaluru, July 11, 2015 : Speaking to media Principal Manohar Serrao  announced the  golden jubilee celebrations (1966-2016, 50 years) of St Aloysius Evening College (SAEC), Mangaluru, at St Aloysius High School Hall on Saturday, July 11 at 5.30 pm.

He said the college was established is 1966 by the Jesuit congregation and has been serving the students. Since the inception of the college, about 25,000 students have qualified from the college.  The golden jubilee celebrations will be inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa while MLA J R Lobo, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions Rev. Denzil Lobo and Karnataka Jesuit Province Provincial Rev Dr Stanislaus D’Souza will be the chief guests.

It was informed that the year-long celebrations (2015-16) will culminate in a grand finale in March 2016;  the college  hopes to start new initiatives that will take it to the next level and make it relevant in the fast changing global scenario.

Activities profile 2015-16 : The principal said several programmes have been chalked out throughout the year to mark the golden jubilee. To better promote talent of the students, the SAEC will organise a State-level inter-collegiate fest ’Kurukshetra’ on August 8.

The festival aims to provide a platform to propagate the spirit of communal harmony, brotherhood, skill development and healthy competitive spirit among the youth.  The SAEC will host a university level workshop for teachers and administrative staff on ICT tools in collegiate education on September 5.

A state-level workshop on yoga too has been planned for January 9 keeping in view the holistic development of staff and students and to promote physical and mental discipline as well as help them attain a stress-free and anxiety-free life.

The management, students, staff, parents, alumni and friends of the college will donate Re 1 every day throughout the year termed as "One rupee revolution", and the proceeds of this revolutionary manner, will be used for outreach activities of the college, this revolution is aimed at generating funds without burdening anyone.

Stating that the college has giving thrust on empowerment of youth, the Principal said that the college proposes to offer two unique certificate courses- (1). in entrepreneurship and (2) in basic and advanced communication skills for the general public. The courses have been designed in tune with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India campaign, to support the budding entrepreneurs. These courses are specially designed to foster much needed skills and enhance the self-employment opportunities for the participants. The grand finale of the golden jubilee celebrations will be held in March 2016. .
