Mangaluru: AIMIT holds International Conference on Advanced IT, Engineering and Management

Mangaluru, October 7, 2015: St. Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT) Beeri,St Aloysius College, inaugurated the International Conference on Advanced IT, Engineering and Management SACAIM 2015 with a grand opening ceremony in Arthur Shenoi Auditorium of AIMIT.
Universities from abroad namely Le Moyne College – New York, Santa Clara University – California, North Dakota State University, Fargo, and the State University of New York, Cortland, joined in virtual form in the opening program with messages related to innovation and entrepreneurship, to the participants.
After the lighting of the lamp, Professor Santhosh Rebello, Dean, School of Information Technology AIMIT welcomed the gathering and in his opening note mentioned how AIMIT has so quickly picked up the Digital India initiative in addressing current issues like eGovernance and the need of technology in addressing and promoting its application in the overall development.
Dr. M. Vijayakumar, Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya University was introduced by Mrs. Manimozhi, the Convener of SACAIM 2015. In his address to the students Dr. Vijayakumar said students should think laterally and create a total revolution in thinking differently. He referred to the contribution of technology in the medical field such as combination of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) with Computed Tomography (CT) scan which was unperceived little more than a decade ago. There is no area that is left untouched or unaided by technology and students should think of making it cheap and affordable to the general public and concentrate on research.
Fr. Denzil Lobo SJ, Director of AIMIT, in his presidential address mentioned how predictions of yester years about the end of technology have been proven wrong. Big names in this field had relegated technology to something that has reached the end of the line back in 1940s, but since then things have drastically changed direction. Now we are at a stage where quantum and DNA computing using biochemistry, and molecular biology hardware is picking up rapidly. The traditional silicon-based computer technologies have come of age.
Fr. Swebert DSilva SJ, Principal of St. Aloysius College, the guest of honor touched briefly on how students should build positive self image and get out of the rut and routine to be creative and innovative. There is no dearth of ideas and these can come from unexpected places and people, at unexpected times. He also mentioned how St. Aloysius has been in the forefront of education in technology, and its ranking among the top colleges in India, in various branches of education. He said there is no place for mediocrity and students need to tap into their full potential.
The SACAIM proceedings were released by the chief guest Dr. Vijayakumar.
Mr. Manibhushan, the organizing secretary of SACAIM delivered vote of thanks.
The conference is scheduled for two days Oct. 7 & 8, with 7 tracks running in parallel to allow timely completion. In total 29 colleges from India and the U.S. have participated with the number of presentations and posters totaling to 110.
