Mangaluru, Jan 26,2017 : A colourful function marked the celebration of the 68th Republic Day at Nehru Maidan here on January 26, Thursday.
Speaking after hoisting the national tri-colour and receiving the guard of honour, DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai, said Republic Day is a Day when the nation celebrates its strength as well as the supremacy of its democracy. It is the ardent duty of each and every citizen of the land to respect the Constitution and act accordingly. Being fully aware of one’s fundamental rights and duties is also of utmost importance, he added.
The Minister also outlined the various developmental initiatives of the state government and the schemes implemented in the district.
The colourful and attractive parade organised to mark the occasion was participated by the police personnel, NSS, NCC, and Bharat Seva Dal volunteers from different educational institutions across the district.
Five Government employees were honoured with the Sarvottama Seva Prashasti for their excellent service. A Vintage Rally was also inaugurated by the Minister on the occasion.
City Police Commissioner Chandrashekhar, Deputy Commissioner K G Jagadeesha, District Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, Mayor Harinath, Deputy Mayor Sumitra Kariya, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA JR Lobo, MLC Ivan D’Souza, MUDA Chairman Suresh Ballal, ZP CEO M R Ravi and others were present.
