Mangaluru : 5-day art camp kicks off at Pilikula

Mangaluru, July 23, 2015: An art camp organised by the Karnataka Lalitha Kala Academy   ahead of a two-day state level conference ‘Sangama-Sambhrama’  kicked off at Dr Shivaram Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama on July 22, Wednesday. The five day camp is being participated by nearly 15 artists from DK, Udupi and Kasargod districts.The main objective of the camp is to create works of art that reflect the culture and traditions of the land.

The camp was inaugurated by  MS Murthy, Chairman of the Karnataka Lalitha Kala Academy. In his address,he  said artistes have great responsibility towards society.  The government is spending nearly Rs 300 crores towards promotion of art every year, he added.


Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim spoke on the importance of organising art and cultural programmes. Janaki Brahmavar, Roy Castelino, BA Mohammad Haneef, Presidents of Tulu, Konkani and Beary Sahitya  Academies respectively were present among others.


Prominent among the participants in the camp include Ganesh Somayaji, Santosh Andrade,  Rajendra Kedige, Anil Devadiga, Purushottam Adve, Jeevan D Salian, Sapna Noronha, Santosh Andrade, PN Acharya, Ravi MR, Vishwas M and  Wilson JP D’Souza.

Two works of art created by each artiste will be distributed to the Konkani, Tulu Beary  and Sahitya Academies which are organising the  Sangama- Sambhrama.
