Mangalore citizen celebrates 100th birthday

Mangalore, Oct 17, 2014:  Robert Michael D’Souza of Mangalore  celebrated his 100th Birthday at Canara College, Mangalore on October 16.  The celebration was by his friends and well wishers. However, the centenarian could not make it to the function as he did not find himself  up to it.

Better known as Michael D’Souza was born in Ooty where his father was an estate owner. He joined British Army in 1933 and served till 1943. He also worked as a mechanic in Tamilnadu and old Mysore province. He married Elizabeth D’Souza, who departed from two years ago. He has no issues and has a foster son. Michael is a down to earth person and has been carrying out his  daily chores all by himself.   Michael says that he wants to break the record of his mother who lived for good 108 years and so be it’ Narendra Nayak said and added that the social concern of Michael is an inspiration to all.

Speaking on the occasion, President of Federation of Indian Rationalist Association Prof. Narendra Nayak lamented that, Robert, who was active till morning, had also gone on a drive in his car. But at around 4pm, he developed slight temperature and doctor suggested him to rest. Neighbours in his apartment had also thrown a party for him on the occasion, Nayak said.  Robert Michael D’Souza’s grand niece Regina and great grand daughter took part in the programme.  The recognisition served to cheer the centurion.
