Mangalore based youth forum launches ‘CREST for Kashmir’ to help the rehabilitation work in Kasmir

Mangalore, Sep 17, 2014: In view of reaching out to the people of Kashmir who are devastated by the recent floods, a Mangalore based youth forum ‘CREST’ (Creating Resource to Empower Society Today), the youth wing of Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL), has launched `CREST for Kashmir’ initiative to mobilize resources to help the rehabilitation work that is in progress to bring the valley state that is restoring normalcy.

Speaking to the media, CIL Convenor, S. Nandagopal said, ‘the youth of the city under CREST will come together to mobilize resources through an array of activities to collect money, materials and man power. It has set a target to send 5000 Toys, Medicines worth Rs 5 lakh, Essential Commodities worth Rs 5 lakh essential and warm clothing among other things. It is also intended to send 50 Volunteers to spend about ten days in rehabilitation work on Ground Zero.

He further said, the volunteers of CREST will go on a door to door collection drive throughout the city during the next one month. Collection of old newspapers and scrap will be taken up as a fund raising effort. School and college students will be appealed to donate usable clothes, warm clothing and other items that will reach the affected people. Non-perishable food items, grains, pulses, tea among other commodities will also be collected from wholesalers.
 
To raise funds for the initiative, apart from donations, CREST has planned to hold a Charity Basketball Tournament. A mall event with bake sales, Mehandi and yard sale during a weekend, has also been planned during the month. Navaras Utsav, a cultural evening by the Navaras Hobby Dancers Club, a wing of CIL will also be held during November as part of the fund raising series of events, he said.

Vaishnavi Pavithran, President, CREST, Arun Malya and Vaishnavi Rai, Coordinators of CREST for Kashmir Project and Jason Brian Saldanha, Coordinator of CREST Toy Bank were also present at the press meet.
