Mangalore University for 5-year law course

Mangaluru, Mar 26, 2018: Mangalore University is set to start a five-year integrated law course at the university campus in Mangalagangothri from the coming academic year.

Vice chancellor professor K Byrappa said that faculty of law will be created for the purpose. The proposal has been mooted. Those who have passed PU are eligible for the integrated law course.

In fact, colleges offering law courses in the Mangalore University jurisdiction had delinked from Mangalore University to get affiliation from Karnataka State Law University eight years ago.

The budget of the university for 2018-19 has been earmarked and an amount of Rs 80 lakh has been set aside for starting the law course and setting up a faculty of law. The modalities on the intake of students for the course is being worked out.

Budget : Presenting the budget for 2018-19, finance officer Dr Dayananda Naik said that said that the university is expecting receipt of Rs 420.69 crore and the expenditure would be Rs 426.64 crore. There is a deficit of Rs 5.95 crore. The deficit during 2017-18 was Rs 5.82 crore.

Rs 80 lakh has been set aside for establishing a medical physics course at the Mangalore University campus. A sum of Rs 80 lakh has been earmarked for providing cybersecurity at the university campus. Rs 80 lakh has been set aside for the 150th year programme at the constituent University College in Mangaluru.

The budget has also earmarked Rs 8 crore for providing basic infrastructure facilities to Mangalore University First Grade College at the university campus.

Further, it has proposed high-tech auditorium with ICT, smart board facilities for MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) programme at a cost of Rs 3 crore. A sum of Rs 6 crore has been earmarked for the establishment of high-performance computing based data centre.

He said Rs 25 crore has been earmarked for the advanced research centre proposed at Belapu village in Udupi.

The finance officer said that the university is expecting Rs 9 crore under SCP/TSP grant in 2018-19.

In addition, the university received Rs 8.65 crore under RUSA during 2017-18 and is expecting more grants during the financial year.

The university has sought fund of Rs 205.49 crore from the government for the construction of new buildings and to provide basic facilities.
