Mangalore University ’Prasaranga’ publications to go digital

Mangaluru, April 07, 2015:  Briefing media on April 6,  Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa said that "Prasaranga" of Mangalore University will bring out all its publications online for easy  reference.  He said publications will be made available online at the library. In case required to download the publications, a fee will be charged.

Stating that Prasaranga is celebrating its silver jubilee on April 8, he said silver jubilee celebrations will be inaugurated by Mysore University former vice chancellor Prof De Javare Gowda. Poet Prof K S Nisar Ahammed will release publications.

As a part of the silver jubilee celebrations, it has been decided to publish at least 25 books. In the first phase, six books will be released on April 8. They are "Yakshagana sthithigathi" by Dr M Prabhakar Joshi, "Balipa gana yana" by Dr Nagaveni Manchi, "Yakshagana Prasanga Samputa" by Dr Padekallu Vishnu Bhat, "Adbhutha America" by Dr H M Nagaraju, "Shabda seemeya aache" by Poornima Suresh and "Karavali Mahaneeyara baduku-saadhane."The Prasaranga will publish six more books in the next two months..

Mobile library :  Prof Byrappa said the  university has earmarked Rs 25 lakh for Prasaranga during the year. A mobile library will be initiated to sell and exhibit the publications of Prasaranga. A specially designed bus will be used for the purpose. Taking a cue from Mysore University, Mangalore University will also initiate mobile library to increase sale of its publications.

As a part of silver jubilee celebrations, Prasaranga will also hold special lecturers by academicians in the field of social science, science, arts and management. At least 20 lectures will be organised during the year. A volume on special lectures will also be brought by Prasaranga. All previous convocation addresses will be brought out in a volume during the year.

The VC said university is considering the publications of best thesis in arts, science and commerce faculties. Prasaranga will also publish research books and lecture series books both in Kannada and English. It will also organise a book fair and national conference on issues related to publications, information and communication technology. It will also felicitate publishers, or recognise contributors to publications. It is also planning to expand the outreach activities with interdisciplinary, multi-linguistic and multi cultural coverage, many latest innovations are being considered.
